CREATIVE MATHEMATICS QHS students in Years 7 and 8, nominated by teacher, Ms Reichel participated this week in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad. The programs are unique in that they focus on the students' ability to solve mathematical problems in a creative manner - as opposed to simply reaching a solution using a prescribed method. STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY BONDS With the long weekend bye from Friday Night Rugby, on the horizon QHS decided to take the opportunity to implement a trial an Interschool Rugby 7s competition. The event was hosted by the Quirindi Lions Rugby Club last Friday afternoon and was a great success. The Lions provided canteen services and equipment to the school as well as 50% of the canteen proceeds going to QHS. COMMUNITY BIKERIDE QHS students and staff participated in the inaugural Liverpool Plains Reconciliation and Retaining Local Youth bikeride on Saturday. This year, local businesses and organisations, community members, schools, community groups and council united for the 64-kilometre ride. Scrum machine The QHS Men's Shed recently designed and constructed a scrum machine for the QHS Rugby Teams. QHS Rugby Union, Coach, Mr Hamilton said the scrum machine enables students enhanced training opportunities. POLAND THE COUNTRY OF CHOICE This year's country of choice at the annual Country Women's Association – Support Unit Luncheon was Poland. PARTNERING WITH LOCAL CLUBS QHS Rugby players tamed the lion on Wednesday afternoon, with an 8km run to the 'Quirindi Lions' Rugby Club from school and back. Two players even made the whole trip in just 48 minutes, averaging a terrific 10 km/h.
